Great news about being able to count rising 5s as over 5 as they start school. At my local school, reception children start full time on day 1, but at my old school, it could be almost Christmas before all reception children were in full time!

Thanks Sarah. I found the safeguarding YouTube prevention incredibly helpful. I just listened whilst tidying and getting the kitchen ready for the day. Where else can you get so much information in 20 minutes? Answer: you can't. I made a few notes and 'action points' for myself.

The rising fives thing is good news, though it's come at the wrong time for me. This year, our school has multiple start/finish times for the Year R staggered start which don't even coincide with the regular school day. This would mean a staggering (no pun intended) SEVEN round trips of 45 minutes to school each day, with the EY children rotated between the buggy and Mrs bunyip for her allotted hours of sole care.

It's obviously impossible, and has resulted in two very disgruntled mums each having to take 2 weeks off work. In line with LA guidance, I suggested they insist school provide the full time place which is a legal requirement. One did and was given a flat refusal. The other wouldn't speak to school. She didn't want to be marked out as a 'difficult parent' from day one, which I can understand. :(

Following on from 'risk', I use this http://www.hse.gov.uk/entertainment/childrens-play-july-2012.pdfdocument to support my health and safety policy and explain to parents that I do allow children to take risks in their play.
