View Full Version : Sweet community spirit
A friend and old colleague of mine has just posted a lovely photograph on FB. She lives in a block of flats, and typically there are several young school children also in the same block. She saved up lots of stuff from her recycling bin and old wrapping paper etc and set it up as an invitation to play/create on the landing outside her flat. She provided some glue, but that was the only expense. Before long she had a group of happy little children from different families creating away together! She left them to it, but being an EY specialist couldn't help but observe them for a little while. She said the teamwork, language skills and problem solving skills being practised and developed were amazing.
She has no children of her own, this was purely for other people's children. What a lovely, simple gesture don't you think? Happy memories being made and neighbourly bonds being strengthened! Just had to share! :)

That's a lovely thing to do. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it inspired others to do the same? How much fun could they have if parents got together and organised group activities. I bet children and adults would all benefit from the community spirit.

that is lovely. But how many people were wondering if she had an alterior motive. Or , God Forbid , what if it had been a man who had done it? Sad sign of the times.

I know, it is sad but I also thought that. However, she does know these kids/families to say hello to. I don't think she would have been brave enough to do it if she didn't. She said today that some of the parents have now added to the collection of resources to keep the creations going. I wonder if any of them are secretly glad that she did it outside her own front door and not theirs, lol. I also wondered whether anyone would complain about blocking the communal areas, but it looked under control and I'm sure there must have been some parental supervision.
