Inset days

Do you charge for inset days for term time only children? I always have done as some schools would put them randomly mid week. My latest school tags them onto holidays and TTO don't pay for holidays as they pay a higher rate for TTO.

Would you still charge? I am available for work but don't always have the children.

For inset days, I give clients the choice to attend and pay or stay home and not pay. But that's just me.

I think CMs are entirely justified in charging. Nurseries and preschools in my area are paid funded hours for children who would attend on a day they close as an inset day. Teachers and schools get paid likewise.

My LA recommends I close, claim the funding, and take the time to attend a training course. All very nice, but they don't tell me what the parents are meant to do about childcare, nor indeed why they don't actually run any training courses for us to attend on those days. :huh:

My TTO children don't pay as they don't attend. If however their parents need help with childcare on that day, ie other parents can't/won't help or grandparents aren't free, then they attend and I charge the same hourly rate my eyfs children pay. TTO children pay a higher hourly rate normally on their contacted hours.

I state in my contracts that term time only dates are those as set by the LA. So inset days are paid for as they're not part of a holiday.

Nor have they accounted for the fact that not all the children you/we care for are term time only, so that kind of sucks too ;)

Similar to BallyH, schoolies don't pay if they don't need me but will pay the going rate if they do happen to need care on that day.
