SAFEGUARDING TRAINING - response from Ofsted...

My question was 'how often do childminders need to access training?' It was asked in response to the new requirements in the inspecting safeguarding handbook - https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/547327/Inspecting_safeguarding_in_early_years_education_a nd_skills_settings.pdf.

Ofsted say -

The guidance entitled ‘Inspecting safeguarding in early years, education and skills settings’ does apply to early years. However, the requirement that ‘safeguarding training should be taken every two years’ only applies to schools and colleges, as stated in the guidance (second bullet point, page 11).
EY providers, including childminders and childminder assistants must adhere to the safeguarding requirements set out in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Best wishes, Early years policy team, Ofsted.

**So - we follow the Eyfs - we do what our LA / LSCB wants us to do - if they say 3 years or 2 years we do it! :D

Hi Sarah,
Is this still the case with the new EYFS? And also what level traning do we need? I have found an online course with PACEY that covers radicilisation, FGM, child trafficking etc - is this course sufficient? Surely it has to be!?!? Thanks

Yes the advice is still current ...

your main course should ideally be LSCB approved so you get local contact information :D
