NCC Childcare Level 3 Online

Hi,

I am in the process of becoming registered and am completing various courses as put on by my LA. I was wondering if the NCC Childcare online course is worth doing or is there anything that is recognised more or more accepted within the childminding community? Details below:

I have never heard of NCC.
If you are registering you need to do the 'homebased childcare' qualification as specified by your LA.

The Level 3 course which is recognised in the EY world, called the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) is something you can do, but to do it you need to be working to do it. You need to be able to write case studies and refer to your practice and be observed with the mindees- so tends to be done once you are settled into the job. I did mine after 2 years of CMing.

A full 'Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator') like Pacey and others offer, is over £1000 I believe, so I would be cautious of any course that says it is Level 3 but only costs £220!

If you are still training with your LA ask them to give you information on the Level 3...it has changed and they should signpost you.

According to your age you can get a grant...if under 24...or a loan which you repay when you earn over £21,000
The EYE is around £3000...some associations offer it with a discount but...as said below...£220 would raise eyebrows!

The contents of the course you mention are nowhere near the new EYE requirements and the course is a mixture of online and hands-on practice with specified hours of practice!
The course is Accredited by Cache

If you google EYE all the info is there for you.

A few things set alarm bells ringing for me- there is no tutor support, you can resit the test as many times as you like and the certificate is not accredited to an examining body (such as CACHE or C&G). You will end up with proof of completion but not a qualification.

I would say...be careful and do your research about the company. I knew someone a few years ago who signed up with a distance learning 'college'. She showed me the course content and her first module. They were still referring to the 14 national standards!!. Long story but I sent a very strongly worded letter and after quite some time they finally refunded the money.

I know places like Groupon and Wowcher often have special offers for these courses.

I was under the impression they aren't accredited courses and are more for interest than anything. I don't think you could complete this course and say you were qualified to level 3, but I could be wrong.

If you want to find out if this company is accredited to deliver EYE call CACHE and they will tell you if they are. on the list

Thanks for all your help everyone. Gave that a miss and am currently doing a level 3 CACHE with the LA. Will look into additional learning once it is complete. :)

I was doing level 3 through pacey. I funded it my self £1200, had to put on credit card. Unfortunately I had to have an extension as my family went through a very difficult period. They were happy to do that but have now said if I don't have 80% of the work done my January then I fail the course. I'm so upset about it, I asked if I could be transferred onto the new course, can't remember what it changed to, but they refused :-(

Definitely do some research into courses, you will be busy enough trying to juggle things only to find out the course isn't worth anything xx
