EYFS Staff:child ratios

Hi all,

Ive just started my CYPOP5 and have a query about what I read in the EYFS about staff:child ratios, it states

3.30 For children aged under 2

- At least one member of staff must hold a full and relevant level 3 qualification and must be suitably experienced in working with children under two


My query is I have an 8 month old at the moment but plan to start minding other children from when hes 1. Do i have to be level 3 qualified to mind my own child? Or is this applicable to nursery staff and not childminders?

I have my nephew who Ive been asked to mind who will be 11/2 when i start my business, does this mean I cant look after him?

Is there anyone I can call to speak to about this, Ofstead maybe?

Childminders do not have to have a level three qualification. This will be for nurseries etc
