Hi there - my husband is currently registered as my assistant and is going through the process of registering as a childminder. This seems to be more complicated that it should be (!) and the documents don't seem to help.

He has got to the part of the form about the DBS check. He already has a CRB check done in 2011 by Ofsted when I registered, but on the phone, Ofsted said this wasn't enough and that he would have to apply to Capita. This is not a problem (just wish we had known this first!). I now have to also do an EY2 form, and I apparently can use my 2011 CRB form (go figure!). However, there isn't a box on the form to say that you are co minding but only assistant or just adult living in the same house.

Have we got this right?! I wish we could use his current CRB check which is fine for him as an assistant but apparently not as a childminder?! It would speed the whole thing up as now he has to wait for 6 weeks for the Capita DBS check.

Thanks!

Ofsted need to check that nothing has happened between the CRB and DBS. he also needs to have his health check done, eyfs introduction course completed and anything else they need and will ask for.

It may not take 6 weeks for a DBS either I sent mine off with supporting docs and had my certificate in my hand within 2 weeks. My hubby's came back even quicker! xxx

Yep he's had health check, done course, got paediatric first aid and had two more disclosures between the assistant one and this one (scouts and church). To be fair his disclosures have come back very quickly in the past - we're just a little irritated that it's not until you get to the last page of the application document, they say about DBS check and going to Capita. There are soooo many hurdles to get through!
