Ofsted guidance states very clearly what Tribal or Prospects inspectors should do when carrying out a cycle inspection for settings...page 6 is very clear on what they must do when a cm's inspection is due...a call a few days before

[B]When will the inspection take place?
We will inspect your provision at least once within the inspection cycle. The next inspection cycle will end on 31 July 2016. Newly registered early years providers are normally inspected about six to seven months after registration,
14. We will prioritise inspections where:
 we receive a concern about the setting, and our risk assessment concludes that we need to prioritise or bring forward the inspection
 the provider has been judged as inadequate or requires improvement at their last inspection.
How long do inspections take?
15. This varies depending on the size and characteristics of your provision. In general, childminding inspections take about two to three hours and group provision may take up to six hours or more.
Before the inspection
Notice of inspection
16. We give most providers no notice of inspection, so that inspectors can see settings running normally. We telephone childminders and temporary provision like holiday play schemes a few days before we intend to inspect, to check children are attending or the provision is operating that day. Inspectors do not give any provider the actual date of inspection.

It does not say anywhere that cms can be called weeks and weeks before and then left wondering and waiting.
While a call is certainly a warning and should alert cms it also leaves many in a state of apprehension and endless waiting....is this necessary?

If you are called do you ask the reason? do you ask the name of the person calling you?

Many are saying that the company is calling to update records for cms...why?
there has been no official statement from Ofsted that it should happen...is it another individual interpretation by inspectors who are outsourced and trained by Ofsted itself

unless a cm has handed in her registration then she is currently working...all that an inspector needs to do is verify what it says on the guidance...are there children on roll ...is the cm available or on holiday so the inspector does not waste her time and ...money!!

It also states that an inspection will take place within the current cycle which ends 2016...so that should be clear to those who are waiting for an inspection
