Hey all,

I have some weddings coming up in the summer months and would like to do something now to feel better and more confident for then.

I only want to lose a stone just so clothes fit better etc

I didn't know whether to do a shake diet as I just have no interest what so ever in dieting and following recipes and counting calories.

I know what's good and what's not so good and I know what I love to eat an what I probably shouldn't eat lol

I just want a diet that's easy peasy to follow as I don't have much time on my hands :(

Any advice would be great :) xxx

Im doing slimming world and loving it. Fruit n veg and lean meat are all free as is black coffee. All suits me. Ive just been eating too many sweet things lately so my loss has stalled a little.

I would recommend going along to a group and see what you think. You only pay if you want to give it a shot x

If you don't want to calorie or follow a specific diet you could try a couple of other things that helped me lose weight.

I have massive dinner plates, and quite big side plates, so I started dishing up my dinner on the side plate so I had a smaller portion, but because the plate was smaller, it didn't feel like it was smaller, if that that makes sense.

I also put my cutlerly down between mouthfuls and properly chewed my food, this helps to make you feel fuller quicker. As as all smaller portions I also grazed throughout the day on healthy snacks like fruit and such like. I probably ate about 6 times a day, but very small portions.

I have lost over 2 stone just by doing this (over 1 year), I have also kept it off.

The 5:2 diet is supposedly quite healthy and very easy. Eat what you like for five days and less than 600 calories for any two days - dont need to be consecutive.1-2 lbs a week off is the norm.
I personally found the slimming world meetings dire but I know they can be effective as can ww

I am always on a diet ask anyone here who knows me

I started slimming world last week though and I'm really enjoying it and actually feel full ....there is a lot of preparing and planning but once you get your head around it it's worth it and the meals are lovely

My mom is on the 5 2 diet and loves it but it's very restrictive she has lost over a stone in a month

5:2 is amazing I lost 2 stone in 2 months just before Xmas and its still off now. It re trains your body/mind about food and its the only diet I have ever been able to do and stick too and actually loose weight. Trust me I have tried far too many lol! I didn't find 5:2 restrictive I still had take aways etc I just ate things in moderation because I didn't feel as hungry as before. Xx

A good way to lose weight is to start the day with protein not carbs... So avoid things such as toast and cereal and instead have something like 2 boiled eggs... Protein will burn whatever fat you have then throughout the day whilst carbs only store it x

This is my weakness

I either have toast (2 rounds) or if I'm in a rush I have 4-5 chocolate biscuits dunked in tea :/ I know it's naughty :(
I'm going to try the egg thing. As I'm aware I do eat too many carbs anyway as I have sandwiches for dinner too and then sometimes for tea home made chips/garlic bread and do on. Need to really cut back on them :( x

I have done my own version of 5 to 2 . Monday to friday I eat just my normal healthy meals and fruit for snacks, no chocolate. biscuits, cakes, wine, crisps etc. Saturday and sunday I eat whatever I want!!! I dont feel deprived cos I only have to wait a few days to have whatever I fancy. I have been doing it since last May and lost one and a half stone. I also swim twice a week. I dont think of it as a diet just a lifestyle choice.

I think the smaller plate in particular is a very good suggestion as I do pile our dinners up.
I'm such a fast eater aswel need to slow that down.
I read somewhere aswel that every meal you have leave something on your plate. Even if it's just 1 mouthful.
I was always brought up to not leave waste lol terrible terrible idea as even if I'm full I will make sure food isn't left and thrown away lol.

I'm a size 12-14 but want to go down to more of a 10-12. I'm thinking of starting this diet on Monday. I do food shopping of a Friday too so will give me chance to plan the meals and avoid buying certain foods lol :) xxx

What kind of things did you eat on the 2 fast days?

Our usual meals for fast days was half a weight watchers pizza and some chips with veg or beans/spaghetti. Or new potatoes some kind of low cal meat and vegetables on fast days we played safe I used to save all my 500 cals till evening too because im not a big eater for breakfast and lunch...

I'm currently on week 2 of the 5:2 diet and like previous posts am no where near as hungry as I was the first day but in general my appetite had shrunk too which is a good thing. My typical day is a weight watchers yoghurt for breakfast I've never been a breakfast person mind. Pitta bread with cottage cheese, slice of chicken and lettuce for lunch, sugar free jelly for afternoon snack then spaghetti on 2 slices if nimble bread toast. If I'm still hungry I have a early night so I don't eat anymore. I feel far better and know on second week am not finding myself hungry on these days. I lost 5lbs the first week.

I brought it as well and had my first fast day on Monday. I'm doing Monday and Thursdays as they are my busiest days so I won't notice the not eating so much!

My mother in law lost almost 3 stone on it! Fingers crossed it works for me as well!

5:2 fast diet!!! I lost 2stone and have kept it all off, still weight the same as I did last October, so I'm chuffed about that. My weight used to fluctuate a lot!! Aside from weight loss, this diet also has lots of long term health benefits. I'm not sure how many of them are 100% true, however, I know how I feel in myself, I feel amazing, and even if some of it is just a placebo affect, I don't care (hope that makes sense) Whatever diet route you go down, you need something to keep you focused!

For me, I liked the fact that I wasnt denying myself foods ever day, it is just two days a week, and then you soon learn what food is beneficial and what's not worth eating! Good luck xx

I also used to get terrible stomach cramps, and bloating, I haven't since I Started this Diet last July!

It also suggests that fasting 1 or 2 days every week, will extend your life...who knows how true this is, but for quite personal reasons this has kept me motivated. I don't think I could recommend this diet enough :) xx

AdeleMarie88

I make soups, veggie burgers (minus bread), grilled fish with vegetables, stir fry, bean chilli.

BBC Good Food App is very good for healthy recipes!!

Because my OH doesn't fast, I often found that I would use pretty much all my 500 calories in one meal, so that we could eat the same thing. But what I do now is have a very light breakfast, fruit tea and a banana (100 calories) apple at midday, (25 calories) and then evening meal. To make it more filling for hubby, I just add potatoes, or pasta or some kind of carb. Xx

On a fast day today. I make a big bowl of salad with lettuce tomatoes cucumber pickled onions and either boiled eggs or tuna. It's about 250 calories depending what I use. I weigh it all and leabe it in fridge if I pick all day still have calories for that night

if you are doing the lower cal "fast" days eat stuff that will give you energy for longer. heavy on the non refined carbs so potatoes, rice, green veg like brocoli, spinach, or root veggies, fruit/tomatoes and avocados which have good fats to keep you fuller longer.

I take my hat off to you I could never do the fast days :laughing::laughing:

Today was meant to be a fast day but I got invited out for lunch and it would have been rude to say no! Got a job interview tomorrow and there is no way I can do the hungry so will attempt to fast on Saturday as we won't be doing anything! They are hard I won't deny it! Not pleasant but knowing I can have what i want the next day is a huge motivator!

Ok so day one of fasting was a mixed bag., didn't help I just took a notion at lunchtime to begin! I had a bowl of mini max for breakfast which was 261 of my 500 calories in future will try something lower calorie to save some! I had two cups of tea with milk and canderel, and then didn't have any more all day when usually I have 5 or 6, so I think that was why I had the most horrendous headache in the evening., felt sick with it and only just managed to get a low fat chicken caesar salad down me then hit the bed. I didn't sleep well because of headache (was afraid to make myself more sick by taking painkiller on more or less empty stomach) but took some paracetamol at 1am and slept fine then.. Headache gone by morning and voila I have lost a pound since yesterday!! Was going to go for a swim last night but hubby says not a good idea although book says it's good to exercise on an empty stomach as it burns fat rather than what you just ate. Might switch to fast days on Friday my day off so I can exercise in the morning rather than a whole day of fasting

All in all wasn't too bad I didn't feel extraordinarily hungry except before I had dinner , which I had to go and buy and cook so left too long I think,. Didn't have trouble sleeping so it was more or less the headache not the hunger pangs which bothered me.. Hopefully that was caffeine and choosing the wrong food rather than lack of food cos I can't cope with it if that continues! I drank loads so wasn't that!

How's everyone getting on?

I had 300 calories yesterday. Not on purpose aimed for 500 made up a large bowl salad and picked all day on it drinks loads water and herbal tea. Then had a meeting g for childminders last night and I won the prize for best answer lol which was sweets so politely refused them and the buns and biscuits and tea on offer. Had a herbal tea I stead. Came home knowing I had 200 calories left to eat didn't feel hungry so didn't bother eating

So I am not sure how this 5:2 diet is meant to work if you can eat what you want other days lol!! I managed to put back on the pound I lost at the weekend.. But it was a total excess
One as we were away and attended a party so a lot of drink was had! I suppose I had only done one day fast and usually would do two..
Second day fasting today, decided not to do Monday as I was tired after late night, also I would often swim Monday and Thursday and I know that they say you can exercise as normal but I wouldn't have energy that time of night after all fasting! Gonna try Tuesday cos it's a busy day for me and hope it will fly by and Friday as I am usually off so can swim first thing

How's everyone this week?

Read somewhere after that dieting can kill the muscle so you shouldn't do much cardio when reducing calories (contrary to what we normally hear!) but the numbness and tingling is there sometimes even when not on a fast day.. Is it normal?!

Hiya,

I've tried a few diets and the only one that worked for me longer term was slimming world, I've been to group then online then back to group as feel I need the encouragement and kick up bum in group :) I'm never hungry can have choc synned as a treat and the kids eat some of my meals too, there are some great recipes diet coke chicken, mushy pea curry, sw kfc. It was a lot easier than the quick results of the Cambridge diet i tried and generally lost av 2lbs week on s.w without the hard work. Oh and body magic helps too. Good luck with whatever method u choose xx

Oh gosh, no, I have been on fast diet for about 9months and I have never had any numbness or tingling...in fact quite the opposite, I used to get pins and needles in my feet a lot, and I haven't had it for ages! You can buy from select chemists, 5:2 fast diet vitamin supplement, I don't know if it is actually endorsed by the diet, or whether it's just a vitamin company using that for advertisement, but perhaps you could try that? I don't think you should feel like this as a result of any diet...perhaps pay a visit to pharmacy and ask them? Xx

Am down almost a pound from the last weigh in before I went so am happy with that, have undone the damage and still on the way down! My bmi is dropping which is good to see! Really liking this diet (wouldn't have said that last night when I was hungry at 8pm!) but it is doable and am achieving what I want finally so am feeling very encouraged! Have been looking at clothes I could wear when I am down a bit , I am not huge about a 14 but very self conscious of my belly so will look forward to wearing some clothes which are for people with flatter bellies!

Haven't lost any weight for few weeks, I Either need to start having fewer calories during my non fast days, or start exercising!! (Panic)

I'm going to make more of an effort during this beautiful sunshine to start Jogging two or three times a week!

Anyone have any fab veggie recipe ideas? Xx
