Well last shot (is it a shot?) they could have played safe for a 1 to take to another end where Norway would have had the hammer. (Now I don't actually know what the hammer is or why its important) But no the skip ( see another technical term) went for the match winning shot and got 2.

I could so commentate on this sport :laughing::laughing:

It's an odd sport, isn't it?

I think it was probably invented by a couple of cleaning ladies with their mop bucket on wheels, pushing it down a long wooden-floored corridor and seeing how far it would go. They'd have one pushing the mop bucket & one brushing any bits out of the way :D

Odd is putting it mildly.

However a sport I could possibly do especially with the mop bucket :laughing:

And not one well you do have to be slightly crazy to do - like the snowboarding that's on at the minute

My 9 year old has just described curling as 'flat slippery darts'.

I find watching it quite relaxing, and I think it is probably easier to watch if you don't really understand what is going on.

I've really enjoyed the Winter Olympics this year, I don't normally watch it but I have it on when I can. The Curling is good but again I don't understand it fully but still watch and get excited lol. I've liked all the events and my minders have enjoyed to and asked lots of questions which is good.

I think it's great. Shame we only see it every 4 years.

The bits I don't understand:-

Why do they always do that little twist of the wrist on release every time? I know it makes the stone follow a curve to get behind the 'guards', but they still do it even when a straight line shot is required.
Why do they have seperate men's/women's competitions? It looks like they could compete on equal terms, no bother. (Although, at least this way we get 2 tournaments to watch.)
Are you allowed to play if you aren't Scottish?
Are you allowed to play if you don't have piercing blue-grey eyes?
Why can't curling replace some of the tedious wall-to-wall soccer coverage we have to endure for about 13 months of the year these days?
Why do they give out 5 medals to the teams of 4 players? The 5th one isn't even the coach, so who is she? Are the team just allowed to bring along a friend, or does the 'number 5' have a function? Maybe she looks after the valuables, so they don't get their watches nicked from the changing rooms?

The fifth player carries the bags and cleans the ice :-)

I did wonder about whether or not you did have to be Scottish.

I would tell you my plan on how to get the GB team on how to win the ice hockey but dh reckons its cruel :laughing::laughing:

I guess the 5th team member is there in case of injury - sprained pinky, or a nasty case of frozen knee?

They must feel like Michael Collins during the moon landings....tagged along for the journey, but never quite made it into history.

I was enjoying a serious bout on schadenfreude last night watching the U-S-A blow their lead in the hockey final. The medal ceremony was a picture, with all the American team looking thoroughed :censored:ed off. I've haven't seen that many women cry since the Dagenham Girl Pipers drew me at the speed-dating.

Made even more satisfying when it emerged Obama has lost a bet with the Canadian prime minister. It's just over a case of beer, but IIUC if the Canadian men win tonight, Obama will be forced to pull out of the Middle East and cede Alaska to the Canadians. :D

Obama would get Celine Dion.

I gather he was drunk at the time the bet was made, and has now asked the U-S-A hockey coach to throw the game. :D
