Hi can someone help me, my minds gone blank! Child A (18mo)here today and shown an instant like to the farm animals during free play. This then lead to a story about on the farm and asking him to show me what each animal was and the noises they made. (He knew them all) what could be a next step from this or did I already do a next step without realising??

You did follow on with a farm theme but what was it exactly that the mindee liked doing?, was it putting the animals in and out of the barn, pushing the tractor about, lining up the animals? It could be that the next steps are nothing to do with farm animals at all but about putting objects in and out of boxes etc.

He just plonked them about on the table for a bit. No real structure but was happy to tell me what the animals were. I was wondering if I could put next step as looking at more exotic animals (zebra etc) and learning about those?

I would just stick to letting him play with the farm, could you organise a trip to a real farm or are you in a built up area? My mindees love the Tractor Ted DVD's - you can buy them in farm shops and we can borrow them from our library but not sure if they are available in libraries nationally. Tractor Ted DVD's feature real machinery and animals with Tractor Ted being a little animated tractor that tells you about everything. Here is the website https://www.tractorted.co.uk/ and just spotted clips on youtube too Trailer: Tractor Ted in Autumntime - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2thgCZUVcg) - got to go now mine want to watch the clips! :D

Or next step could be playing with other small world toys...

Or learning songs about animals - old macdonald etc......
