who do you use for car insurance?

DO you go with a specialist insurance as you can get through PACEY or Morton Michel or do you go business cover through a normal insurer. Last 3 years I've gone through brokers Swinton and made sure that not only is it business use but that I'm covered for any accident whilst having mindees in the car.

I'm assuming if its business use insurance you have to clarify that it is childminding and that you are covered? AM thinking of doing it online so don't want to have someone quibble it in the case of a claim!

Can you please tell me (if you don't mind) what kind of price you pay? I have a 7 seater Zafira so I know different areas and different cars vary greatly but a rough idea would be great!

I was paying £32 a month but the cash back I got made it less - this year they are quoting me £60 a month so I am obviously going to shop around!

Also does anyone know how protected no claims discount works? I've got 9 years no claims discount (maximum you can get according to brokers) and I had protected no claims but I can't work out if that is just through them or if I go elsewhere I can take with me.

I am with Churchill - they know I am a childminder and cover me with business insurance. I am fully comprehensive at all times and covered for mindees in the car.

Price depends on loads of factors I have a zafira and pay £235 which includes my no claims discount protection and a guaranteed hire car with 7 seats (£19 & £34 respectively)

To protect your no claims you need to pay and show proof that you have the no claims years earnt so you can take it to other companies if you have proof.

Before this I was with Swiftcover - they cover childminders but this year they were more expensive for cover than Churchill were including added guaranteed hire car.

Before that it was MM. I shop around each year:thumbsup:

Thanks so much - I am shopping around but even filling in the quote maker was quite complex - I remembered the days you could get a quote based on the car without all this complicated 6 page forms wanting your life history!

I have a 8 seater Previa and it is a 2.4. I have class 2 business use with Churchill and 9 years protected, guaranteed same level of care and pay £245 a year.

the more policies you have the cheaper it is, house, car etc...

Also worth doing a quote online as it is cheaper and then ring them saying you are a childminder and you aren't sure of your cover etc and they will look up the quote and do everything on the phone :)

I am with Tesco this year and have had to make a claim as a van drove into the back of us while we were on holiday in Scotland. They have been great. No fuss, agree to my Skoda dealer doing the work and providing exactly the same car while the work was done. The other fab thing is that I have no excess so I didn't pay a penny, nothing to claim back from the other guys insurance, tesco handled it all. I pay just over £300 for my car.

I'm with Swiftcover & pay less than £250 a year for my 1.6 Touran - have you not got any NCD? I would definitely shop around as that sounds ridiculously high
