A lot of people are going to struggle with this :( And unfortunately I don't think we can rely on training to help us either :panic:

I did the trial one back in February this year ...

I've kept it updated monthly ever since of course

If you've bought 'EYFS - Meeting the Standards' from me, I am busy doing an update to cover the new style inspections and the SEF :D

I've got training for this on Wednesday night. I'll share any tips or tricks I pick up. I haven't even peeked at the form yet, though. Guess I better do that now.

Okay, wow. That's like an OU assignment in and of itself! I can see that it will be a very helpful tool for showing that you're are a self-reflective practitioner (another buzz word these days) and make you really think about the outcomes in your setting. But I also imagine it will put a lot of people off!!

I haven't time to read the guidance. Anyone know how often we're meant to complete this or is it just when we are expecting our inspection? I think I may do it termly (at the end so I can evaluate my planning and obs for the last term).

wendywu
15-07-2008, 07:13 AM
Yes i have training for this ( i hope) in September. Perhaps if we add thousands and thousands of extra pages they will not even come out to inspect us but do it all online. Now wouldnt that be fab:laughing:

Its 27 pages Long !!!!!!

Ofsted told Surrey it was going to be 9 pages long. Maths is not Ofsteds strong point unless it comes to counting the numbers of our children.

Perhaps we should try it, Yes i know i said i was caring for 9 children, but when i counted there were 27 i just dont know where they all came from. Is i say sorry will it be OK:laughing:

On the page it said to call xxxx to get your password. I called and they said it was an error. Letters are being sent out, and they have been made aware & are going to change the information!

That was with the old system Son. With EYFS we will have to fill out a 27 (yes 27) page document, either on line or on paper. The inspector will read it before visiting for your inspection, hopefully it will make the inspection shorter.

Shorter inspection sounds good though, about 10 mins, just enough time to confirm my name, DOB, show the children I look after as proof, then good byes!

Do they really expect us to have the time to fill this in, look after the children, plan, assess, make scrapbooks etc etc etc, or are we just not supposed to sleep anymore????

Also are we supposed to hand this over to the inspector so we dont have to talk to them, or do we still need to have all of the evidence to show them anyway??

I'm very confused

and yes, you still need to have all the evidence to back up what you are saying in the SEF but hopefully it will make your inspection shorter if you have got a lot in your SEF :)

I have rung them to send me out a hardcopy, I hated the idea of doing it all on the computer, only for it to crash on me or something and then lose all of my work.

My friend who is a minder still hasnt even recieved her letter yet?? Do you think it means I will get inspected before her, or do you think they are doing it alphabetically?

Well naturally I tried to log onto the SEF and what a surprise my logon didn't work (apparently this would be because they do not have my date of birth on file which I find difficult to believe). Anyway I phoned up to get it sorted and they gave me an e-mail address. OK I thought, simple - oh no, this is Ofsted remember - there is no such e-mail address it was returned as unable to send.

Second call to Ofsted - woman on other end didn't have a clue what I was talking about and it took her ages to sort out putting my date of birth onto the data base. You would have thought that after sending out all those letters they would have trained their staff - and they expect us to know what we are doing.

I have lost the will to live.

Did eventually get my log in sorted - very frustrating

I have just saved a copy. Will print it off when i have some ink! Then i can jot things down all over it!

If we only rate ourselves as good do you think we have any hope of them grading us as outstanding or will they think we are being big headed and grade us down?

I have also saved a copy - I'm wary of just completing it on the computer.

I had my letter and "token" on Thursday and my surname begins with L - I suspect it's being done alphabetically

When Ofsted came out to me last year I rated my self as Good and she just agreed so im going for outstanding where ever i can prove it to see what happens

Spangles
01-08-2008, 07:48 PM
I was wondering about that too.

I don't think that I'm probably outstanding at anything but if I don't put that will I only be graded as good? It's hard to know if you are outstanding or good because you don't have anything to compare it to like the inspectors do so how can you possibly judge?

Mrs.L.C
01-08-2008, 08:46 PM
I think if you can explain what you are good at and why then its always worth a shot

miffy
01-08-2008, 08:50 PM
If you want to be graded outstanding then that is what you should tell the inspector and be prepared to tell her/him WHY you are outstanding.

After all you have nothing to lose :)

Oh I forgot to add, I had trouble today logging for the first time - I had the same message as some of you, so I phoned Ofsted - they put me through to tech help. The tech told me that a lot of childminders are having trouble logging in for the first time. He told me to log out completely and log back in a few times and it worked. Yeh, I mean still look after the children and not do the paperwork. I know my parents wouldn't give a damn whether I did all the paerwork or not so long as their children were happy and looked after. I am feeling very rebellious about this, my daughter in law and granddaughter are coming tomorrow and I will have to spend all my evenings looking at this stupid sef. It's terrible when we do such a good job and get paid so little and the paperwork affects our family lives.
