No hint as to who will pay for it though?
He likes the idea of childcare hubs...we still don't know what they are but no idea if he endorses cms agencies

Disgraceful that you can not be outstanding if you do not open 7-7. What a bribe.

I don't see why. They are only saying if you have more than 24 children or are a Children's Centre. It has always amused me that our Children's Centre has Opening hours of 9am to 4pm. My working parents could never access them and I think it is about time their opening ours reflected their working parents. Many will have to reflect on this because now to get anything other than a 'Requires Improvement ' grade they will have to have a min of 65% of their allocated children registered with them. For our CC this means 65 % of 929 under 5s. They have to prove they are registered and that they have had some direct contact or contact with a child's main carer, so childminder or Pre School, Day Nursery or School.

Most of our Day Nurseries are open from 7.30 to 7pm so it just means they will have to open half an hour earlier. Thousands of childminders are open at 6am and many work to 9pm on their own so this is not a difficult goal for Nurseries. They will of course increase their prices to cover it which could work in our favour.

How about this one Mouse...
Have you heard that Nick Clegg has now promised 'free school' meals for all 5, 6 and 7 year olds regardless of income?

It is due to start next September. They are doing it because of the extreme concern that children are going to school without a good breakfast and it is affecting the way they work and learn.

I applaud him for doing this. However I think it is a very sad reflection on 21st century parenting that it has even become an issue. I think it is shocking that parents are not giving their children a decent breakfast before school. It doesn't cost much to provide a bowl of cereal, a piece of toast or even a boiled egg. It just takes a bit of calm organisation. I'm sure sure we have all felt the pressure at times but we are the adults and surely it is our responsibility to give our children breakfast?

I must say I have had children arrive with me who are supposed to have had breakfast and they demolish egg on toast!

I have to agree that 21st parenting in some cases is terrible - the articles a few weeks ago highlighted that some children start school not even toilet trained and can barely communicate. I don't really understand the reasons for this it can't all be lack of money or time and lack of education. But how do these people slip through the net and why don't they realise from tv at least that their parenting skills aren't the norm?

Sadly I don't think he's doing it to ensure all children have at a least one cooked meal a day.

He's doing it to help parents save money...and to buy votes.

There are no chips on the primary school menus around me and my children's High School only had them on the menu rarely.

Of course there is an element of this but it has been highlighted that there is a big problem of children getting to school having had no breakfast. I think it is a positive step and hopefully it will get these children into good habits and help them progress in their education.

Totally agree this is nothing more than a vote winning exercise.
