Feel very pleased with myself, just given blood for the first time, very nervous and hands where shaking, but did it. My arms look like pincushions as they had to double check my iron, but so glad I did it.

Well done you! :clapping:

I used to do it quite often but I fainted once and it put me off a bit

Well done. I like going to give blood have done since I was 18. I went as my 18th birthday outing. Me and all my friends learn you should not go to the pub after giving blood it takes you by surprise. 6years later and we still all go together.

Glad it went well. Keep it up.

Well done!

My friends and I all started going after our 18th birthdays and went regularly.

I can't give blood now (I'd happily give it, but they don't want it :() and I'm always disappointed that I can't persuade my teenage boys to go. They know I could have died if it wasn't for donated blood, but it still doesn't make them do it.

I did this when I was 18, about ......... well a few years ago, and it also put me off. I am also an unusual blood type so should really do it.

Well done you.

Well done. I used to give mine regularly despite passing out and once being sick! I did it because my dad needed blood once. It got easier as I kept going but since they gave me some back they don't want my blood now :( I'd give if I could. Such a valuable gift.

Well done :) I didn't realise I could give blood as I'd been told by someone I couldn't as I take thyroxine, which is rubbish. I've now gone 4 times. I don't like needles but I look away and wiggle toes while that bit goes on.

I'm O neg so it's nice to do something when I hear how desperate they are for it :)

I'd love to give blood, anyone know what drugs are banned? :)

I've always been scared, what's the process? How long does it take?

Basically, they do a pin prick test to check your iron levels and a quick questionaire of medical history, if that's ok they then put the donation needle into the arm you don't write with, ask you to make fist actions while the blood is being removed as this helps speed up the removal, they also suggest to peddle with your feet and clench my thigh muscles as this keeps the blood flow to the brain, which reduces any dizziness, the actual removal of blood was about 5 mins, you then get a nice drink and biscuit afterwards and a sit down for 10 mins before you are allowed to leave. I will defiantly be doing it again :)

I needed a huge blood transfusion when I had ds2 - and so afterwards I regularly donated - to help someone like someone had helped me really.
then the whole CJD crisis happened , and if you received a transfusion between certain years you cant give blood.
I tried to persuade dh and ds1 and 2 - Ill never get anywhere with dh but still hope to convince the boys.

I had a blood transfusion after the birth of my 3rd child in 2010. I am no longer allowed to give blood. Ever. Makes me sad as I gave before and would love to give.
