I've just had an idea (inspired by Buttercup's exploits!).

Does anyone think it would be a good idea for us to get together and organise penpals from different childminding settings?

I don't really have any children older than 2 but my son (2.5) would find it fun getting letters - and me sending them! Ha ha! He could enclose photos or drawings or whatever!

They could write to each other about what they're doing and where they've been, toys they like, books their reading, their schools - all of the normal penpal things!

Could do it as individuals or as the setting.

I think it's a good idea but don't worry if you all think it's rubbish! He he!

I'm amazed, I thought everyone would think it a stupid idea!

Okay, well, what about if we all do it as settings and if we have a deadline date of when to say you want to do it on this thread and then I could get all the names together and draw out of a hat and pass the name of who you get on to each person and you can swap addresses between yourselves.

Does that make sense?

Is that okay Pauline? If so, I'll put a deadline date on later.

So, I will put a deadline down for next Friday, 11th January so I can sort it out over the weekend.

Anyone interested just add your name to this thread and I'll pm people with their penpal's name next weekend all being well and you can exchange addresses between yourselves!

How exciting!!!!!

Yes, everyone's welcome to join - even newbies - ha ha!

I would just say that if you don't think you will ever get round to writing then please don't join as it will be a real disappointment to your recipients. I would be gutted not to receive letters so for a child to get all excited about getting a return letter and then nothing arrives it would be really upsetting!

Also, when I give you the name of your penpal partner next weekend it would be a good idea if you sort out between yourselves who is going to write first otherwise each could assume it's the other and everyone will end up with very long waits! Ha ha!

I'm really excited about this! Can't wait to get going!

Can we write to as many as we like or do we just have to stay in contact with one person

Some of my children are a little older and I know they would love to know what everyone does all over the country

I did join something like this a few years back on ukchildminders but only ever received one letter

So I agree with you Lorri only join this if you are going to reply etc

Oh blimey! Going to get complicated if people want more than one!

How about we start with one each and see how it goes and then in a couple of months we could always 'advertise' for additional ones if it seems to be working okay or people could let me know when they want a new one and I'll keep some kind of note so I can match up when someone else wants one?

I don't know - getting confused now! Ha ha! Doesn't take much!

mrsbumbles

Perhaps we could have a 'Penpal wanted' area on the forum, where we could post ourselves? Dont know weather it would work?

angeldelight
06-01-2008, 03:46 PM
Well you need to think of an easy way to do this so you are not bogged down with it all Lorri

I am going to be doing this tonight so this is the last chance to put your name down if you want to join in the Penpals of the Forum at this point!

I need one more setting as I've got an odd number at the mo, if not, I will just be greedy and write to two settings! He he!

I will be sorting this out from 7pm tonight.

I've had to send a couple of pm's re. queries I've got so I'll have to wait for the replies until I get this sorted out so it probably won't be tonight now but I'll do it ASAP because I'm really excited!!!!!

It doesn't matter if we have an odd number because I'm happy to write to two settings, in fact, I'm more than happy to!

I have sent all of the pm's out to say who everyone has as a penpal now so if you haven't received one please let me know.

Took ages to do because I was whizzing through them and suddenly realised that only every other one was being sent because you can only send a pm once every 60 seconds so had to go through and do the missing ones again!!

Anyway! Hope everyone's happy with who they got and will write to each other!
