Hey all

Just after some advice

What headings do you have on your risk assessments??

Just so I can ensure I am covering everything.

Any advise and extra things to include maybe that has been a hit with Ofsted and helped better your practise??

Thanks in advance
Amy :)

I had a colum on one side with things like
Stairs
Doors and windows
Plug sockets and trailing wires
Sharp corners/edges
Fire safety
Low level glass
Fire in living room
Garden safety
Etc
Then on a column next to it saying
- stair gates, regularly check hand rail and gates
-doors to be locked with key on a high hook, windows to be on safety lock and keys out of lock
-socket covers, tidy loose wires, or attach to wall
-corner covers and cushioned covers for edges
-fire alarms to be checked often (separate form to evidence this) teach older children fire safety, never leave cooking food unattended etc
-low level glass n/a
-fire guard, switch off electric fire using main switch
-check garden each morning for animal faeces, rubbish, broken glass, broken toys etc

I labelled them all Risk assessments (home and garden)
Then a bit underneath saying I will review these safety methods and actions every 6 months or when needed, then signed and dated it

All i can think of offhand. Hope this helps you a bit xxxx

Mine is organised per room, so bold heading with room and then a list of all things I think make be a risk.

I do mine room by room too - with a list of potential risks and then how I will remove or minimise the risk. I then do this for walking, trips in car, trips to toddler groups, parks etc

Risk management: Five steps to risk assessment (http://www.hse.gov.uk/risk/fivesteps.htm)

I found this very helpful, there is also a really handing document to print out which I keep with all my RA's to refer back to now and again.
