Due to the funding cuts in our LA they are no longer able to provide training. Our association will endeavour to provide as much training to childminders as we can. Our next training evening is Characteristics of Effective Learning. We are able to offer this certificated training for the cost of £10 per childminder. We are only able to accommodate 25 childminders at a time due to venue constraints but will try and help as many childminders access as much training as we can.

I heard Stockport had withdrawn training.

In Cheshire East we still have some training - but it will cost us :(

Yes Stockport as an authority have withdrawn training but we as an association will continue to offer as much training as we can in place of the LA training. We have over 100 members so as a collective can buy in any training we can afford. In the past few months we have had behaviour management , outdoor play, a craft workshop, an evening with an Ofsted Inspector and in April are offering Characteristics of Effective Learning. We are looking at providing First Aid and Safeguarding, at an affordable price this year as well. We hope to provide whatever our members need. It might take some organising but we will try.

Is the Stockport CMA still accepting members from outside of the area? Might be worth others in nearby LA's joining now to access the training.

Yes we do accept members from outside the area. We offer other things besides training. Friendship, support, information sharing, fun days, train trips, trip to see Father Christmas as well as meetings and socials. We hope people will access everything and not just the training. Membership at the moment is £8 for the year but I can see this rising in September by a couple of pounds. At the moment our training has been charged at. £10 per childminder but again this may rise depending on the costs incurred but because we are great in numbers we hope to get training at competitive prices.

We as an association are called BOSCMA. Stands for Borough of Stockport Childminding Association. We used to be affiliated to the old NCMA but went it alone a few years ago so we could open our membership up to anyone who wanted to join. We have a website, needs updating a bit, its on my list of jobs to do, it's Home (http://www.boscma.co.uk). Have a look and if you need any further info my email is cdale1@ntlworld.com
