If you are doing 2012/13 the financial year doesn't finish until 31st March or 4the April depending on which dates you are using so don't panic you have loads of time.

Your return, if doing it online, has to be finished by 31st jan 2014 and any tax due paid by the same date.

In answer to your questions NCMA has an agreement with the HMRC for these rates so have a look at the HM Revenue & Customs: Home Page (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk) website and it will give you alot of information or you can use "actual use" of your home but I would advise an accountant for this.

Thanx for that info,I may have got my dates muddled cos my husband said we should've done it by jan2013 so we know we will have a penalty fine. We've spoken to someone at the tax return place who is awaiting our info. Will defrost look at that website. Thank u again xxx

Call the HMRC Business Education & Support Team on 0114 29 69 431. Ask them to send you a free copy of "Childminders - information about tax and National Insurance 2012-13". Then make a note in next year's diary to get the new version before doing your next tax return. This helps with most areas of tax and NI, and includes a table of the %ages you can claim for gas/electric, water, etc. based on the number of hours worked.
