hey all, I have recently started minding at the beginning of the month, and registered as self employed on HMRC website, I recieved an email acknowledging, but recieved nothing regarding doing a self assessment, does anyone know if i have to do one as ive only started this month?

No you don't have to do anything by the end of January. :phew:
Your first tax year as self employed runs from April 2012 to April 2013. We haven't got to April 2013 yet. You will have to submit your accounts from Jan 2013 to April 2013 by January 2014 for online self assessment and I think October 2013 for paper submissions

No as Rick said, don't worry just yet. Just start collecting receipts that show your expenses for childminding and put them safe in an envelope somewhere.
