activity ideas help

This month i planned to do a games theme with a 5 year old iv got for half an hour one afternoon a week. I thought we would look at matching games , games where u moved counters etc. started off playing th game and wasn't many minutes and mum came and the game finnished. i didnt get anything out of the obvs really. Mum was sat talking to me and whist she did the little girl drew a picture of her mum and wrote i luf mum and drew some hearts. Any ideas what activities i can do to develop this . Iv thought of making something for mum but not sure what else.
Any help would be greatful x
