Im thinking about applying for a job in a pre school but the manager said i need the nvq3. How do i go about doing this?? Also the only training i did when setting up as a childminder was that cypop5 thing, is that equivalent to anything? I dont understand about qualifications to be honest :-\

Contact your local authority, or early years development officer, and see if they have any funding available for you to do your NVQ3.

CYPOP5 is just one element of the complete NVQ3, so no it's not equivalent to anything, but can be used towards the higher qualification. (I've found I could use some of the coursework done for CYPOP5)

Good luck

Hi you dont say which Level 3 they want as some you need to do A level 2 before doing 3 I did when I did my chef courses I started at 1 then i did 2 then my Manger at the time put me forward for Level 3 which took a year to do PT Here are 2 there are others

The NVQ childcare learning and development (CCLD) level 3 (http://www.parenta.com/nvq-childcare-level-3/)

I think the accepted standard is now the Level 3 Diploma Children and Young People's Workforce.

You complete a number of common units and then there are a choice of units to do depending on the area of work you are going into. There should be no reason not to do the Level 3 first off I did last year without doing a Level 2 first.

CYPOP 5 is on Unit in the Diploma which is suitable for childminders to do and as a childminder if you have don it it will count as one of your specialist units for the full Diploma. It should be alright to use if you are going to work in a pre school as well. You need to be aware as well to complete the Diploma you must be working with children for a min number of hours a week (18 I think) this can be paid or voluntary but your assessor will need to visit and observe you about 6 times in your work place.

There may be funding available to pay for this course - contact your Early Years Team and ask

I've just got funding through parenta that will provide the full level 3 course if I get the job I have an interview for on Tuesday. I'm printing the funding letter off to take with me to show I've already expressed interest in doing the course as soon as I have found employment in a nursery
