Basically I have a child who doesn't seem to involve themselves in any kind of messy play at all - its also abit of an issue when eating as this child makes hardly any signs of self feeding in that i have very very rarely managed o get said child to touch food - iyswim?

Anyway - messy play hasn't been big for child & so i have been trying to engage the child more.

I thought if i hada form that i wrote info on regarding the childs apparent likes/dislikes to certain activities it may help in my planning.

Did you do a child info book? They usually state likes dislikes, failing that compose a small questionnaire to send home with lo for parents to complete. Ask questions such as favourite toys/games-activities as well as what's not enjoyed :)

sorry - dont think i explained what it is im after properly.

I did a planned activity today to try & get the child involved in a messy play - I wanted a written evaluation of the activity to say what worked & what didnt work. Other mindee's enjoyed it - but a couple of points I could have perhaps changed to make it smoother running for future planning.

I thought if i had a planned activity I could evaluate how it went & eventually end up with a file say of different activities for differnt areas of learning....

I evaluate planned activities through narrative observations / learning stories sometimes - I just chatter on about what the child did / did not get out of the experience, what they did / didn't do, how I supported, interactions with others etc.

I come back to it about a week later and look at it objectively and it gives me an insight into the child's play strengths and weaknesses which helps me in future planning.

Hth :D

Do you mean an evaluation of you rather than the child? So a self reflective form to improve what you could have done differently?

that sounds like a really good idea as I often think I could have talked about that or done this with regard improving your planning and being a self-reflective practitioner.

Could you make a form for yourself?

You could have a section for brief outline of activity and a plan of what you are expecting to get out of it - art/sensory but mainly for this one child participation!

then you could have a larger section divided up for evaluation.
1)What could I have done differently? if you needed less paint or more paint or one child at a time so as not to wreck your house!!
2) additional ideas? you could make a note of whether you needed a bucket of water nearby or extra towels or should have done it outside!
3) language? what could you have said or talked about to encourage sustained thinking?
4) Next steps - what could you do next time to follow on from this? for example I did an activity with some ice the other day and someone commented that they'd seen a really good activity which was ice cubes with toys frozen inside that encouraged lots of thoughts/language.
5) what DID you actually get out of it? did it encourage participation or did the child feel excluded? Did it also encourage something that you hadn't anticipated like talking about numbers

This is a really good idea of yours and would help demonstrate how you effectively evaluate your own practice and strive for continuous improvement!
