I am currently registered to care for 12 children under 8, 6 of whom may be under 5 when working with an assistant. If I work with 2 assistants can I amend this to 9 children under 5 or do I need to speak to Ofsted first?

you need to talk to Ofsted if you bring someone new into the provision.

I think it will be up to you to check you have the appropriate space available for extra children - you can use the space requirements in the Eyfs to work it out - and then of course you will need to risk assess and check you can meet all their learning and development as well as care needs.

Hth :D

they are both existing assistants but I normally only work with 1 at a time. We are currently full with 6 and on a couple of days 7 children but now an existing childs baby brother wants to start. I'm not happy with giving myself a variation for 8 due to the ages and stages of the children but my mum (whose my other assistant) has said she will do extra hours, it all sounds good on paper! I thought it would be down to me but wasnt sure if I should call Ofsted.
