Hi,

I wont bore you with the details but after being quite ill for the last 8/9 months I decided to go an allergy specialist today, I have been told that I have got a severe lactose intolerance and have to cut out ALL dairy!! :panic:

It's not too alien to me as DD was on a dairy free diet when she was a child but to have to cut everything out is going to take a while to adjust too, I can see a lot of packet reading going on.....

Oh no, I'm going to have to stop eating my favourite chocolate bars :panic:

Is anybody else on here lactose intolerance? Any tips you can give me?

I am lactose intolerant and allergic to dairy. Can't think of any tips though, other than not to eat anything containing lactose lol. Might be an idea to find out if you are allergic to dairy or just lactose.

You can now buy in supermarkets lactose free products - fresh milk, yoghurts, custards or the soya yoghurts or soya desserts (in the free from section) - I buy them for a mindee who is lactose intolerant.

You can use the lactose free milk to make your own white sauce for lasagne (not sure if you can get a lactose free cheese - maybe hard cheese like parmasan would be ok - you only need a little - but you would need to check.

Choc bars tricky - can you have really good quality dark choc?

It maybe that if you cut out all lactose for 6 months that you can reintroduce it, fingers crossed as I know what a pain it is to have to read all labels and ask questions in restaurants after I was intolerant to wheat for 7 years - but fine now!

My friend was very bad and couldnt eat beef either but she was at the point that she would end up in hospital if she had any dairy so i think she was worse than most

My son is full on dairy allergic, not just lactose.
He eats the healthiest out of all of us as so many processed foods have dairy in. For treats he likes special k bliss bars, nature valley crunchy granola bars, especially the chocolate chunk one and sorbets.
Look up different names for dairy in ingredients as there are many different terms used to list dairy in ingredients.
Most supermarkets to a really good free from range even in the chiller now adays.

i'm lactose, dairy, gluten, wheat, yeast intolarant plus i can't drink tea, coffee wine or beer can't eat mushrooms tomatoes and my favourite CHOCOLATE, so find i'm very limited to what i can eat been like this for the past 8/9 years. i tend to be very good most days and stick to the little i can eat but at weekends when i'm not out i'll eat some things i shouldn't and pay the consequences, restrictive but so enjoy at the time. i had these tests and had to cut out all then gradually after 6 months or so introduce back into diet and find out what i could and couldn't eat. good luck xx

Actually was wondering about all this today .. Dd2 has dairy allergy and yest had to have a filling a the dentist ., her second (she is 11 luckily both baby teeth) dentist said her teeth were very clean and well cared for,, maybe she is unlucky and has weak teeth but other two dds have none and it made me wonder if it was to do with her lack of calcium? How do you all get enough calcium? She doesn't bother with soya milk
