Paying your own children to help

Is there a certain age children have to be before I can pay them a small amount for helping me tidy up and I can put it down in my books as an expense?

There was another post about this, think it was 13 but in some areas they have to get permission from lea to work at that age. They searching permit for 13 year old. It was something along those lines
