son has forgotten his password
he has a compaq and its running windows 7
we don't have a restore disc
we have tried f8 commands
we have tried a gazillion combinations of the original password (which he swears blind he has not changed and the 'hint' is exactly the same)
we have tried ctrl/alt commands and so on...


any other ideas before I either

a) jump on the darned thing
b) spend money at the local geek shop

Is it worth trying compaq and see if they have a master password reset?

has he checked num lock isn't on as it can change letters to numbers?

I have the restore disk I think for win 7 - I'l have a look in a min....

not tried that one.. will go and have a looksee...

even tried my geek nephew who just said that windows 7 is notoriously hard to break into... (not sure what on earth he could mean by that:littleangel: lol)

I took a broken password protected laptop to the menders and they managed to get into it and fix it... so if the worst comes it can be done.

They wiped all the information on it though :rolleyes:
