silly question about obs please

Maybe its not a silly question but ime never too sure.

My little one cried today when she was feeding herself because her hands got dirty. Can i use this as an observation or is it just things they can do.

It's fine as an observation because you can follow it up with introducing non messy messy play and moving on to finger painting etc to build her confidence :D
