Does anyone know how to copyright something?

My daughter makes paintings of her own and wants to sell them on ebay to friends and family does anyone know how to copyright them so others cannot copy them ?

Anything you create is automatically copyright to you, art, photos you take, a story you write. You don't have to do anything :) Even the 'copyright' message you see on things like webpages isn't necessary, it's more of a gentle reminder to people not to nick stuff.

If she's selling to friends and family, it would be better to approach them directly rather than via ebay, that way ebay don't get a cut :)

As far as I can see that's a private company offering a service for cash - there is absolutely no need to pay to copyright something. All they are offering is a record that you uploaded work on a specific date - you can record the same thing yourself by taking a pic in font of a newspaper.

the only thing I would say, is if she puts images of them up on the tinternet, is that you watermark them x I have no idea how this is done tho :blush: sorry, but an artist friend of mine did this after someone copied her work and sold prints of it (not saying its right, but like she said she was lucky she caught them, as how would you know)x

If she is producing work then she can sell them on DeviantART and a watermark can be applied once she uploads them to the site. It doesn't cost anything to join and she might find others that would be interested in her work :)
