Hi, this is the first time I have had to revise my policies since i started as a childminder.

Do people usually revise their policies by writing a letter and attaching the new policies and a signature "received new policies" slip or do you just print off the new policies and signature received slip without a letter?

As far as I know I have only revised safeguarding properly, amended my illness policy and have changed the learning aspects to the seven....

Whenever I revise my Policies I give all my parents a complete copy (mine are all in an 8 page document) and give them a new sheet to sign.

My Lord 21 pages! How on earth do your parents ever read all that never mind agree to it  I think mine would lose the will to live.

My document was a 7 page one until I amended it ready for Sept and now it is 7.5 pages.

You don't have to give parents a copy of all of the policies, there are certain ones that you HAVE to give them a copy of..... the others can be available in a folder to read. An alternative is to e-mail them the copies and ask them to e-mail back to confirm that they have received a copy and read them.

Right I did it off the top of my head earlier now I have them in front of me!

I have 13 Policies and a Complaints Procedure.

1. Working with Parents 20 lines includes discussing the day, what they have done, what they have eaten, nappies etc. Info from parents about illness/accidents/changes. Paying on time giving receipts, delivery and collection on time reminding them I have a family and commitments and can't always have a child here late. Late payment and collection fees. Normal routine for children and how they become upset if this is changed. Bit about how settling works and how it is not alternative childcare for a week or two!

2. Daily Routine what I do and where I go. 9 lines

3.Equal Opportunities 16 lines

4. Child Protection and Safeguarding 1 side of A4

5. Behaviour and Discipline 19 lines

6.Health and Safety 2 sides of A4 under sub headings
Health and Safety
Health and Hygiene
Food Handling
First Aid and Medical Treatment
Hazzards includes socket covers, hot radiators, stairs, water, kitchen & hot drinks, knives and scissors, hazzardous substances, window locks.
Security
Supervision
Smoking
Fire
Outings
Missing Child
Risk Assessments

7. Food and Drink 10 lines

8.Illness 14 lines

9. Collection of Children 7 lines

10. Emergencies 35 lines with the sub headings below, plus a page with the 3 Emergency Carers photos
Contact Plan
Emergency Care Plan
Emergency Carers Addresses and numbers

11. Training & Professional Development 12 lines

12. Fees and Payments 27 lines with 2 sub headings
Deposit
Fees

13. Complaints and Compliments 6 lines

Complaints Procedure takes up one side of A4

The type for the Policies is a bit smaller than I would normally use so it fits onto the 7.5 pages.

I have always give all my parents a complete copy of all the Policies because I expect them to sign to say they have read, understood and agree to them. I choose not to do anything via email. If you do make sure you put the Policies in a format that the parents can't change them.

I hope this helps a bit more.
