new contract and settling in?

Does the contract have to start early to cover settling in sessions (unpaid), or does it start from the day they actually pay from?

I have always done mine from the official start date but just wondering now if this is right? :confused:

It should start so it covers the settling in days but you can date your four weeks from the day they start properly if that makes sense.
