    Default Recycling theme ideas

I am just about to embark on a project on the theme of 'recycling' with my los, I have ordered a book called 'Bertie the Bursting Bin' and have bought a recycling toy truck, was just wondering if anyone has some ideas on how to kick-start it, I am rubbish at this sort of thing!!!!

    Thanks x

    What ages are the mindees.

I have a recycling game from M&S, mindees loved it - especially the one whose dad worked in recycling, he was very knowledgeable

Contact your local council they will be able to send you some info. I had a website, let me see if I can find it!

Huge thanks to all of you for all your wonderful ideas and for taking the trouble to reply. I am actually looking forward to starting on it now. The little ones are three and 22 months so it should be fun.

I am much better at nurturing and looking after my mindees than I am at crafts and activities!!!!

I have an orchard recycling game. I found it a little complicated but have made up my own game from it. Use resource though. x

You could recycle packaging from food items to turn them into a model. Perhaps save foil wrappers, bits of material etc to do a collage.

Do you have a compost bin? The Recycle Now website has info about composting. You could collect items in the garden to compost.

You could visit then charity shop and talk about someone else reusing items you no longer want.

I know it sounds daft but my own children love going to the tip/recycling centre in the car. There is a large digger with an attachment that they use to bash down the rubbish in the skips so they can get more in. They sometimes see the lorry taking away the full skips. they love it!

It is also interesting for them to put all their rubbish for the day in a box (clean washed stuff only of course!) and then use it to make a rubbish picture. We stuck ours onto paper plates - but only cos i am a bit obsessed with using them!

    Hi
I took photos of various item off rubbish e.g. cans, milk bottles, news paper, cartons, tins, toilet roll holders, etc etc. Then printed off and cut out and got the kids to sort into Paper/card, plastic and metal and stick onto the correct bin
(I cut out three wheelie bin shapes from different coloured card.)

I also took them on a trip to bottle banks etc- they loved posting them through! You could also get the children to bring old/out grown clothes and take to charity shop/ clothes bin as part of recycling and then it could lead onto other topics....3rd world countries etc.

    Hope that makes sense!

Use paper/leaflets/magazines/etc from the recycling bin to make beads and necklaces:

Children love posting objects in to things.... you couldd take them along to a supermarket carpark that has the original style recycling bins and let them post tins and bottles in (riska ssessed and with gloves of course!!)

That sounds fun, I've bookmarked that for future reference!!

Glad to hear you sounding a bit more chipper!

    jen
