Numbers
I have a 4 yr old who can't recognise numbers any ideas for activities? Ty in advance

Just keep them there on display constantly without making it too obvious. I have number posters up and have number jigsaws, stencils and balls withs numbers 1-20 on them but I try not to force the children to recite numbers back to me, they're just a daily thing which are always there. You could also read number books, like ten wiggly caterpillars etc. Hope this helps

Thank you so much we have number books and jigsaws and played find the numbers we hid in the garden so hopefully it will encourage him. X

When reading number books, trace the numbers with your finger. The child will copy with a little encouragement and learn that the spoken word links to the shapes on the page

we look at numbers in the enviroment such as door numbers, vehicle registration plates, dustbins with numbers on. I wrote numbers on the bikes, cars and scooter, children are encouraged to chalk out number car parking spaces and park the correctly numbered vehicle in the parking space.
we draw numbers in shaving foam, wet sand etc.

You could play a matching pairs games with numbers too-make 2 sets of sturdy cardboard numbers-just up to 5 to start, get him to paint/decorate them, then lay out one set and hide the others. let him seek them out and match them up! this works for all sorts of things, shapes, letters, colours.....

Try thinking of different ways to describe different numbers - I know this sounds slightly barking but things like 1 is a straight line down, 2 looks like a duck, 3 is like half a snowman, 0 is a circle and 8 is a snowman. My 3 yo DD is finding it fun and it helps them to visualise the number.
Would agree we also try and talk about them out and about not making a big deal of it so saying ooh look that number on the house looks like a snowman what number is that etc.
Good luck.

Ah that's brilliant thank you so much I live the idea of linking them to snowmen etc.
He actively tried to distract from learning them because he finds it hard bless him so general chat seems the way to go.
