Last year I printed off some very simple poppy flower templates (can't remember the website, sorry) and let the mindees finger paint them in red paint, then we glittered them before the paint dried. When they were dry we stuck small black stickers in the centre of each flower. They looked really effective and the Los loved them.
Miffy xx
Keep smiling!

i spent quite a while yesterday looking for simple ideas for LO!
think we are going to do red fingerprints, with a black dot on green paper to look like a field of poppies. i was trying to find a simple story to read/show but can't.
last year i cut red card into poppy shapes and let the LO collage them with lots of red tissue and then put a black centre on them.

I printed out the poem In Flanders Field and put up on display with the finished poppies we made last year (along with an old photo of my husbands grandfather and his brothers taken in uniform just before they went off to war. Sadly only one returned).

We've done two craft activities this morning.
1) cut a paper plate into a poppy shape, cover in glue, lots of red tissue paper pieces to stick on, red glitter and a circle of black card for the centre.
2) Paint two paper doilies red, add a black centre. When dry place doilies one on top of the other, twist into a flower shape and twist a green pipe cleaner on the bottom to make a stem.

We're doing a 'people we like to remember' tree with photographs of people the children like to think about (parents, siblings etc) and then we'll pop into the village and get a poppy each to remember other people who are important to think about.
