I started mine in Sept 08, funded here.
You have to pay for it if you pull out of the course.
Done mine last year, got a level 3 and thankfully mine was funded but to keep it updated every 3 years its £50.
Its worth doing as it makes you look at your practice - good groundwork for the DHC or NVQ
Ive done Quality First but now regret spending a year of my time on it when I could have spent that time doing the NVQ3 that Im doing now.
Dont know where you live but in Herts and I know others do it , they do their own, Herts Quality Standard Award which is fully funded and very similar to NCMA one. I would ask your local training people before commiting to an expensive course.
does anyone know how i go about doing the nvq instead?
i work late 2 nights a week do you have to attend college or is it done at home??
is it funded or do you have to pay for it???
I did it over 3 years ago and am in the process of being reapproved but NCMA were quite happy to take my £100 but I had such difficulty getting an assessor out to observe me as they didn't have any in the area. It took 5 months! They are in the process of redoing all the paperwork now to bring it in line with the EYFS.
I only went through reapproval as it seemed a shame to have done all the work previously and let it get out of date. The reapproval doesn't involve much paperwork either

do you think it's worth doing?
i was going to apply to be a level 3 through devon county but i have to wait till i've been minding for a year.

The DHC is a good level 3 qualification but tied in specifically to childminding.
The NCMA Quality First is an assurance award - renewable every 3 years (at a cost of £50) and it certainly makes you think about your practice. The difference between the NCMA QF and local ones is that the NCMA is recognised nationwide - often the local quality assurances aren't transferable between counties.
The NVQ CCLD level 3 can be quite hard going but still very doable and worthwhile.
I got funded and done my level 3, i actaully quite liked doing my QF but there is quite a lot of paperwork, mine is due next year for renewing which i probably will
We used to get funding in this area for quality first, but they stopped it so they could fund the NVQs.
I have have done the NVQ last year. I'm not sure what Quality First Can someone please tell me what the difference is between the two, thanks

From what i ahve heard (not done nvq) they are similer as in you are answering questions and providing evidence for them, some cm's here done them together and said QF was slightly easier than NVQ and if you were doing one you can add to the oter easily
