Default NVQ Children's Care Learning and Development course

Hi I spotted a post on ***** about courses for childminder's and other childcare providers and asked for more info. The women replied to me today, saying that the course advised is CCLD. Depending upon age and previous qualifications. I left school with nothing but do have Level 2 teaching assistant, will that be enough to do the level 3 course or would i need to start with the level 2? They have funding for the courses except level 4, which is why it's so appealing.lol
Is it a good course to do to suit OFSTED?

Being a childminder qualifies you to do Level 3 CCLD, at least that's what I was told. You have a Level 2 already so I should think you'd have no problems. If you can, I'd def go straight for Level 3.

    Good luck!

Sorry just read your post properly. OFSTED will LOVE you haveing NVQ 3.

I finished mine earlier this year and many others have as well or are working towards it. I'm slogging away towards my Level 4 at the mo (through Open U, not NVQ) on my way to a Foundation Degree.

I agree with Tatia - go for it especially if you can get funding

    Good luck

I agree with Tatia and Miffy. Ofsted will think the sun shines in hard to reach places if you do NVQ3 CCLD.

Thank you all for your replies. I emailed the women again telling her roughly what i said here and she is now looking into the standards for teaching assistants. Whatever that means.lol
I hope i get to do the course, i feel as though i need to get more qualifications but can't afford to pay to do any. Well i probably could if all the bills hadn't gone up in price!lol.

Don't quite understand why she is looking at teaching assistant qualifications but childminding is classed as a Level 3 job because you work alone and unsupervised so that is the level you need to do

I'm sure if you already have Level 2 teaching assistant you are more than capable of doing Level 3 CCLD

    Good luck

I was puzzled when i read the email from her saying that she was looking into those standards. Think i will phone her later and chat about it properly.
    Thank you for your reply.

The women came round today to give me some info on the course and expected me to look at it and for her to come back in a few weeks. However i've signed up today to do the level 3! She is coming back in a couple of weeks to go through it a bit more, but also needs my national insurance number (which i couldn't remember) and a copy of my birth cert, cos i was born in Gibraltar. (Dad was in navy) So once that is all sorted hopefully i will get started. Will no doubt be on here for help, A LOT!lol

That's good news - pleased you got it sorted.

I'm sure you'll be fine but you only have to ask if you need help - lots of members have done or are doing this course.

I don't know if you can do that. Im assuming probably not, but i aint really got a clue. My level 2 qualification is as a teaching assistant, so i do have experience with children through that and a lot of babysitting, so that's how i was able to get on with the level 3.

In a few years the government want all people working with children to be L3 qualified so i think the L2 will probably be phased out as some point. If you did L2 teaching assisstant the next step is L3 and you should find it easier. You should be able to get funding, have you not done DHC as this is L3. Are you part of the NCMA as i'm sure doing the L£ with them is free.

I have already done a L2 and i am now doing L3 ccdl. Got my assessor coming in soon. I was replying to Kat's message as she doesn't appear to have a L2 qualification.

I went straigt in at level 3 - its classed as a management level if i'm right in what i remember, which means as we are self employed we can go straight into it (Gosh i hope i have that right!!)

I was able to start as soon as i had childminded children on my books. Why not ring your local college for some info?
