Not necessarily a NVQ - but a level 3 qualification. The Diploma (DHC) is a level 3

Well now you come to mention it, I was looking at this the other day and it seems to have disappeared from the statutory requirements with the last lot of revisions... It clearly says 'settings except childminders'.

    Can anyone else spot it??

I had heard the same thing, I was worried sick, I heard 2010 too. Looked on your link Sarah and it does say except childminders.

It's quite clear from your link it doesn't apply to childminders Sarah - methinks the powers that be have realised how much it's going to cost them if all childminders have to be trained!

i think it will show good practice if you have one as a childminder.
if you can get funding to do it then get it done and it will show your continuous professional development

Would the Diploma in Home-base Childcare suffice? I have just started Unit 1.

The only thing is Flutterbyes if you are minding full time and i mean 45 hours a week plus and that does not allow for time to tidy up. Plus all the paper work on top. It does not leave you with a lot of time for your own family or yourself.

The Diploma in Home-based childcare is a level 3 qulaification if you complete all 5 units. It is a Cache qualification, and can be used if you then want to study at a higher level, say level 4 or Foundation Degree.
I've just used mine to be accepted on a part time (one day a week) Foundation Degree in Early years course at the local University. The NCMA are running lots of the Diploma courses, and we got funding for ours so they only cost £12.50 per unit instead of £200, you'll have to check it out with the NCMA, but I found it very interesting and it made me think loads about my practice!

    Hope that helps x

i do totally understand, i have no idea how I am going to fit it all in, but I know I won't be able to do it unless I have got funding for it.
there is no way we can afford to pay for it

To throw another spanneri n the works I have read that all settings should have an EYP in place by 2015 so does that mean Childminders will have to be EYP as we are in charge of a setting and most of use work by oursleves. If this is the case then you would have to have a level three by then to be EYPS
