Default Thinking of becoming a child minder. Live in Nottingham. Thoughts please!

Hi, I am in the stages of researching becoming a child minder. I live in Nottingham and am currently employed as a Teaching Assistant. I have 2 children who are in their teens ( 1 left school this year and the other leaving next).

I would really like to know how any registered child minders started off. Do you have any regrets? Is there a need for child minders in Nottingham? Just anything really!!!!

    Thanks guys!

    Hi Justine

I live in Mansfield and there is demand for childminders here. I started off when my own children were small not sure how they would cope as teenagers if I had started when they were older. I have no regrets about going into childminding it has been great and I have made lots of friends locally and around the country.

Thank you Christine! Always a bit daunting at first. My eldest will be working away all week now (so it wont effect him!) and my daughter hoping to give me a hand!

I have my briefing session next week so will see what's what. Do you always have your places filled and is the money ok? (don't earn much now but always a concern giving up a regular income!)

    Thanks
    Justine

I'm as busy as I want to be - have 3 little ones four days a week and 2 on the other day. I collect children from school. I am going to try and juggle the ones I have now around a little (2 are leaving at the end of August) so that I only have two before and after school on a Friday and no little ones between 8.45 and 3.15 so that I can have a bit of a break as I have been very busy this last year. This is what I like about childminding you can build up your numbers and then with a bit of planning if you want a bit of a break you can not fill your places for a bit and try and have a little bit of free time. By Christmas time I will probably be ready to take on another child and so will start saying yes to enquiries instead of no. There have been times when I have had children leaving and been worried that I won't fill the places but it always seems to have worked out (touch wood).

    Hi Jussy,

I'm trying to reply to your PM but my message won't go through because your stored messages have exceeded quota. Could you please clear your inbx, etc. and let me know so I can try again.

    Thanks.
