    Default Permanant Contraception

    Afternoon All!

My partner and I have decided that we are not going to have any more children so one of us will be having permanant contraception .. sterilisation, as I have come off of the contraceptive pill and no longer want to take hormones. Also I don't want a coil. I definitely don't want any more kids.

So question is really .. has anyone had this done? Either vasectomy, or tubal litigation or the newer one Essure or any other methods? I have read horror stories of all of them by googling, so just wondered to hear some experiences from people here to help us make the right decision.

    Many thanks

A friend of mine had a vsaectomy - in and out jobby, not too much pain, all good from his point of view - he was 48, they'd had enough of using contraception, he saw it as his duty to do it as his wife had done the child bearing bit! I wouldn't want my hubs to do it, and I wouldn't want to be done wither but that might be our stage of life and we might change our minds later on!

My hubby had the snip, 3 and a half years ago. He went in the morning and was out at lunchtime, he just had to take it easy for a few days and he said it didn't hurt that much. You do have to send samples of sperm off and they test it to make sure it worked.

Mine had the snip 15yrs ago. Sat am appointment at Marie Stoopes Clinic I sat and waited. Can't remember how long it took but not long. He was tender for a few days and that was that. Much easier than the female options

My hubby had a vasectomy over 10 years ago, a year after we had our third child. I have had two DVT's so could not take the pill or any other hormone treatments.

He went in for the morning and just had to take it easy for a couple of days. Just a bit bruised down below, my sympathetic friend bought him two lovely purple plums for his recovery

No regrets. He recovered really quickly.

I was sterilized 14 years ago after my 3rd child. I had to really fight the hospital at the time as was under 30 but we knew we did not want anymore children. I had to have a c section so wanted it done whilst I was cut open. They couldn't clip my tubes because of being swollen from pregnancy so was cut and tied which was fine by me.

I am not sure whether DH would of had it done or not as it wasn't discussed due to knowing I was having a c section.

    Hello

a vasectomy is alot more straight forward and less intrusive then the women having a sterilization... also the recovery time is a lot quicker with the vasectomy then the sterilization..... as with the risks, as with any opp both small and big they all carry a risk as I'm sure you know.... Hubby had the vasectomy a couple years ago and was fine (it was like taking the dog to the vet, drop them off and pick them up an hour later)

I won't put it -quite- like that to him.
Actually he was coming around nicely to the idea until we happened to watch Family Guy last night and the song about the half a man who'd had the vasectomy. Now I have to convince him all over again

Vasectomy is def the best way, dh had it done 12 years ago very little pain , he went in and 15 mins later came out and I asked if he wasn't having had he changed his mind, but no he'd been done. No problems after. Never regretted it for a minute

DH had the snip about 8yrs ago.

Very quick procedure, he was a tad uncomfortable for a couple of days but that was it.

I've never been able to take the pill as I have a heart problem and have had blood clots in the past. I used the coil for years but I also suffer from Endometriosis, this coupled with the coil made my periods extremely painful and very very heavy. After our 4th DD was born, we made the decision for DH to have the snip, my periods are a bit better and DH is happy.
