Would just like to point out Mercedes was a name long before it was a make of motor car.

All my children have very traditional names but there is nothing wrong with an unusual name as long as it isn't silly.

At a school where I pick up from there are brothers called Harley and Oakley.

My daughters are 24 and 21 and named Billie and Pippa. I was asked by so many people why I had chosen strange names. They have perfectly normal names compared to some nowadays!

And the only snag is we were never able to buy personalised things from shops like children's cups etc.

there is a child at my ds school called Bo.... The name is fine but the surname is Bayne... Bo Bayne made me chuckle

What's it gotta do with the Pope what people name their children?!

My name itself is not unusual but the spelling is a nightmare, lol. And my maiden name is Ruble so very, very Russian sounding! I have 2 sisters called Desirae and Wendi.

My children are called Brandon, Michaela (both of those names were non-exitant when I chose them but then becme wildly populr! grrrrrr!!

), Nathanel and Seraphina. They're all proper, old-fashioned names actually but people think I've made Seri's name up.

Someone dh knows has a daughter called River. Sounded quite strange at first but it has really grown on me and I like it now!

My friends dd's middle name is macara. She wanted it as a first name but her dh was having none of it!!

When my DH & I got married in Jamaica there was another couple getting married and his name was Sodof

I've got friends who have called their daughters Willow & Jezzamine

When our dog was a very tiny puppy we jokingly ( I think ) said we were going to call her Tiara. My friends daughter said ' Oh that's what someone I know has named their daughter '' Tiara Sparkle '' !!!!

BTW dog has since been named Miffy - much more sensible

In childrens centre a few days ago and a little boy there was called Smirnoff!

My ds is pablo which i dont think is too weird but people always comment on it, im white english and dp is black and greek (none spanish

) i was soooo exhausted after giving birth (i had real flu during labour) when he suggested it i just said 'yes whatever'

then regretted it for months afterwards

but now i really like it.

My DS is Bryce and my DD is Sapphire

People always comment when we tell them their names, and say they are lovely, not sure whether they are being polite, but I love them

Reason Bryce is a shortened anagram of both mine and DH names, and apparently very common in Scotland

Sapphire, because she is a real gem and the first girl born in both our families for 30 years, so a little bit special
