    Default Butterfly Gardens

Has any one purchased a Live Butterfly Garden?

Seen for sale in a catalogue for £17.99 wondered whether worth the money and did it work?

Apparently you raise live butterflies then release them to nature. Thought it might be fun as well as educational to watch them change from tiny caterpillar to beautiful butterfly

    Thanks
    Bendy

Not sure which one you are looking at but I will PM you with where I got mine from. Only extra thing I needed to buy was some flowers to put in it just before they were ready to hatch. Kids loved it and we did lots of butterfly themed activities as well (its one of the only insects I can cope with ). Have also kept the 'net' and bought a refil since. Ive had no problems at all - only thing was they did hatch quicker than the info said so timing is important - I would expect 3 weeks before they hatch.

I have also used one of these and buy a refill every year. The children love it and become fascinated. Insect lore was where I got mine with no complaints.

Yes we have one and it is brilliant to see, ours came from insectlore and am thinking of getting a refill for it this spring, we just used flowers from our summer bedding.

I've used the insect lore ones too. They are good but seem a bit expensive for what you get. If cost is an issue you could always try growing nasturtiums as they will attract cabbage white butterflies and you'll get lots of caterpillars.

I've done them, cant remember which ones they were, but the kids loved them and learnt so much and so many activities stemmed from it, we have made a butterfly area in the garden planting buddlea etc
