    Default Urticaria(hives)?

    Anyone else suffer with this?

Have u found anything that relieves the itching? What causes urs? I think mine must be stress as no allergies.

I have broken out in it yesterday - the lower part of my face and neck - it's kept me up in the night with the itchiness.
This is the 2nd time I've had it so know it will go in a few days but wondering if there's anything I can use, (I'm pregnant) last time it got worse before it got better and my face went puffy!!

Not the best look in the world lol!

ds used to have it and was on daily antihistamines for months , Ive just googles and cetirizine appears to be safe during pregnancy. Other things that eased it were eurax cream if it was only a mild attack , and oat baths when he was getting over an attack but his skin was still a little inflamed.

Check with your midwife though, I'm sure there's a pregnancy related itching condition so there may be a different solution!

    hi becci

after i had my first baby i had hives-it had a long name which i cant remember the abbreviation was PUP so google that and pregnancy/childbirth and im sure something will come up. the long name basically stood for hives brought on by pregnancy. it was unbelievably painful and i nearly scratched myself to death! i was given cream and anti histamines (had to have drowsy ones because of breast feeding-they were great!)

the doc i saw didnt know about PUP had to look in her book and speak to a gp who specialised in skin at the practice. when i was pregnant the second time it didnt come back thank god. hope it eases up soon x

Oh that's interesting re: pregnancy related,

Although would say it's most def stress related, it's too much of a coincidence to have the outbreak now when worrying about lots (I've had to massively reduce workload due to severe spd, and this week have had to progress to using a wheelchair for doing anything other than the school run, so not much money coming in, and on Monday dh was told hes being made redundant, with a baby due in August it's not great news! Other things going on too...) the last outbreak I had was during a particularly stressful time.

I shall make an appt to see gp today, have looked in the mirror and my face has started puffing up already! :-(

A cold wet flannel is easing the itchiness a little...

They just said if the itching gets unbearable to take some anti histamine but try and avoid if possible.

Suggested I put some moisturiser in the fridge and apply it when itchy as it can be soothing - cant say its making much difference at the moment but I shall keep at it. He also adv not to use a cold flannel as although it soothes initially it will dry the skin and make the itching worse.

When soaking you towel use bicarbonate of soda. Ut is great as anti itch. I have made it into a cream for insect bite. Dries into powder so bed was full of it.

    Thanks Jackie,

    Will try that.

Ruth, had a terrible nights sleep, ended up on the sofa so as not to disturb dh too much, but was awake a lot! It's worse still this morning, but know it will get worse before it gets better, hopefully tonight ill be too tired to notice the itchiness!

If it contines, I would give your midwife a ring, I remember a friend having something during pregnancy that needed keeping an eye on and itching was one of the symptoms.
