I too read the book and agree Miranda was the perfect choice for Chummy. Can't wait to have something lovely to watch on Sunday evenings as I am still missing Downton.
Why hasn't Gary Barlow come to my rescue yet?

I love it too. Me and my mum were also in tears at the Christmas episode.

I think all the characters are brilliant and it is so beautifully filmed, absolutely wonderful series :-)

I have set it for record, just in case I forget to watch it. I love this programme and shed a tear too. Sunday night will be a lovely night of viewing the tv box with a glass of wine, call the midwife then either ripper street or mr selfridge depending on which one I decide to record for monday:

Yeh ! Missed the first series as I didn't ever find Miranda h very funny in other things and thought it was a sitcom..... Saw the Xmas special and loved it. so ordered the first series from eBay.
Really happy series two is coming
Easily on a par with Downton

I love it, but the books were amazing. I find it sometimes hard to watch as it's in a very different order to the books - things you thought had already happen suddenly appear in the next episode etc (compared to in the book). The triology is amazing, and the second book shadows of the workhouse had me in floods of tears every night. Jennifer Worth is amazing, she was an amazing midwife and fantastic author as well.

Although I love watching, I also can't help but feel saddened that the way they work is a world apart from the modern NHS. A midwife who actually knows her women, and knows them well - well, it's a rarity, especially where I live. Sometimes you are expected to do up to 20 postnatal visits in a day, after doing the mornings paperwork and including time to travel to each house. There's no time to develop a relationship with most of the women, and half of complications in pregnancy can be detected if you know the woman well, very subtly - there's something you notice, a change. Even if you don't know what it is. But when you don't *know* your women, you don't detect these things until the condition progresses and symptoms start to manifest. Sometimes this is too late. This is why we need more midwives. I guess we need more of all the healthcare teams, because nothing says overstretched like the NHS.

Sorry, I realise I'm getting way off the subject of TV.

Yay, Call the Midwife I do love watching it

I haven't had a chance to watch this yet, still working our way through 'House' then we're behind on 'Dr Who' and goodness knows what else. Think DH is about to start recording 'Suits'
I do really want to watch Call the midwife but just don't have time. Think it looks great though.
Is it suitable for 10 / 12 yr olds (maybe I could watch it with my dd's)

The lady that wrote call the midwife was Jennifer worth and is now dead.If you liked call the mid wife you might like to read Jennifer worths books they are really good, apart from the final one which was very sad as she wrote when she was dying(cancer?).

I think it is suitable for your dds but some of the births can be a bit sad, then again its part of our history I guess, loads of woman and babies died during labour in the 1950s. Its important to realise how far weve come in terms of nursing etc too. My dd is 15 and loves it. The births are filmed very well and its not all gory but the story lines can be sad. You could record it and then see it before you decide if your girls would be ok with it? x
