Are there any dressmakers out there? I need you help please...
My daughter is sat in tears tonight as she has a textiles mock exam tomorrow and is unsure what is expected of her. She has designed a skirt with applique but does not know if she should make the skirt first then applique or applique onto the material before making the skirt. Should she turn up the hem before or after. She has made the applique already to apply.
Can anyone help? Unfortunately I am not a dressmaker.

I'm no expert but have dabbled a bit! I would apply the applique after making the skirt, that way she will be able to place it in the correct position. Not sure what you mean about the hem - it should be the last thing you do ie make the skirt first then turn up the hemline otherwise you will get a poor finish where the side seams meet. Hope I have explained that so it makes sense.

Remind her it's a mock exam - now is the time she can make mistakes.
