Default Things to do in Newcastle?

Once again, I am searching for some help from you.

I am heading to Newcastle for the weekend commencing 13/7 and wondered if you have ideas on what I can do with DS aged 3.

We are staying near the Metro centre and arrive on the Friday so am looking for a child friendly place to eat with DH as well. Then on the Saturday, DH is busy for the whole day so looking for fun things to do for the two of us, including meals. Then Sunday morning we have time again for the three of us before boarding the 2pm train back to London.

Thinking a theatre show would be great if anything on in case of rain and museums, farms etc. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks

There is the Hancock and Discovery Museums (free)
    Life Centre (pay)
Seven Stories (not been there but is apparently brilliant)

Walks along the river are lovely, seeing the bridges

    The Castle (pay)

Many places for food are child friendly

They have a good science museum which is free and plenty of nice places to eat inside the metro centre.
There is also a big fair called the hoppings due on the town moor around now just outside newcastle city centre but within walking distance of it.
Hebs and others will know alot more as I havent been back recently to comment.
"nothing can get in my way" that's my new motto

Science museum sounds good DS will like that! And I think we are near the Metro centre, thanks. A little daunting being by myself for the day in a strange place (Not saying that Newcastle is strange, especially when I come from London!) Thanks x
