Default Mystery face rash - advice needed

    Hi all
Was wondering if anyone has any advice as we're getting a bit fed up now!
Before Christmas my son (almost 15 months now) developed a red rash on his top lip and cheeks. Looked really angry and sore - although he didn't seem bothered.

I took him to the doctor who said it might be impetigo and prescribed Fucidin cream.
I put the cream on the rash 3 times a day...three weeks later took him back to the doctor as no improvement. Doctor then decided its just a teething rash and will go away by itself, or get better when the summer comes. Hmm.

In march I took my son back again as the rash still looks awful - doctor said that Fucidin is the only cream that she can prescribe for facial rashes so we're back on it again!

It looks so awful - people have started staring now as its a bright red rash, and a couple of people mentioned it to me at toddler group last week, concerned it might be contagious.

My son seems fine (apart from being sick of having cream slapped on his face every few hours and moisturiser inbetween, poor fella) but its starting to get me down a bit...he looks really neglected!

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and if there is anyting that I can buy that might help? Have tried sudocrem, vaseline, E45...

    Thanks!

my daughter has k p of the skin and i do
but not as bad as her and they fob me off for years until i got mad and asked to speak to a dermatologist and he said they perscribed the wrong cream for years to her and me
mine are steroid cream ive used them for 10 years and your only supposed to use them for 3!!!!!!!!!!!
so i would personally tell tham you want either a second opinion or a dermatologist

I agree. If it's not got any better using the cream and its been 4 months I would definitely ask to see someone else.

I would go for a referral to a paediatric skin specialist...

A little girl I used to mind suffers from this... but she licks her lips and round her mouth constantly so she dries it out...

    Rascal, what's k p?

I think you're right about a second opinion. I wondered about allergies and thought it might be tomatoes as they definately make it worse, so took him off everything tomato based for 2 months but no joy.

Think I need to shout louder at the GP's surgery

its where the hairs on your arms dont come throu proplery and it leaves lumps

i have very very dry skin but hers are inflamed and itchy (she looks like shes got chicken pox all the time) she has fucilin as they get infected

they gave her some cream that gets rid of bacteria so nice bacteria can grow and she washes in it, and her skin is 10000000% better

it fades in the summer and she has to go under a special heat lampin the winter but she and i will have it for life

thousands of people have it alot of people have it at the top of their arms but i have it 60% body and she has the same

i cant pronounce its full name something like ketelin pilaris

hi both me and my mum suffer from psoriasis and she uses zinc and castor oil cream too, so you could give it a try for a few days to see if it improves.

But i would personally go back to your gp and demand to see a specialist/dermotoligist (sp). Be firm, it's your right as a mother and patient to see another doctor

    Hugs to you both

I would say get a referral to the hospital, my son used to get a rash round his face and cheeks, then i started keeping a food diary of what he had been eating it turned out that he had an egg allergy, he can eat things like cakes etc but he cannot eat anything like a boiled, or scrambled egg as it brings him out in this rash, have they treied keeping a food diary?.
