    Cool Becoming a child minder

    Hello I'm new here

I'm planning (well hoping) to become a child minder

I currently work at a children's centre but am planning to have moved down to my home town by end of the year just need to save up money.
And I just have a few questions

    1. Do I need to have moved home before registering
    2. I have a three year old will I need to send to nursery or can I mind her too
    3. I'm looking at doing early years 0-5 will this make me seem less available
    4. I'm a single parent does that matter
    5. Equipment where can I find lists of what I need
    6. I will be renting do I need to inform them of my business

and anything else you think would be of use

    Thank you

    1) not 100%. If you have your pre reg inspection before you move you can inform them of your new address.
    2) you can mind your own children but they count in your ratios
    3) not at all. I don't do school pick ups. You might be more desirable as there don't be lots of older children there.
    4) not at all
    5) your course will help you
    6) you need permission from your landlord so make sure you seek this before moving

I'l start by saying good luck on your journey to becoming a childminder.
I became a single parent during my registration period so totally understand your situation.

    1) Not necessarily but when you register they will inspect your current home so it's if this is suitable for childminding. You will have to advise them of your change of address as soon as you move home.
    2) You can care for your own child. She will just be counted in your ratio.
    3) Not necessarily. Once you register its up to you who you take on.
    4) Being a single parent is not an issue. As mentioned previously I have managed to register as a single mum with 2 children.
    5) Check if your local authority has a pre-registration course you can attend. You will gain some valuable experience including what essential items and things you need to do.
    6) You are required to inform your landlord

    Hope this helps xx
