Default Stressed about the pre reg visit on wednesday

Hi there got my pre reg vivsit but so worried and nervous I feel like im not prepared or done enough!!

Have I done enough as so far I have done my ra for garden, bedroom, toilet, kitchen and living room?

do they check u kitchen drawer locks as ive got it on bottom draws put not pull out ones as don't have much in there?

do they check your toys as ive not labelled my boxes yet as thought leave it for 3 month inspection as that's when they rerally check thoroughly?

do they only ask qs from the pre reg Ofsted sheet or any more then that?

    many thanks for answering

it looks to me as if you are well prepared...relax and look confident, engage with the inspector and listen
It is not an inspection but a visit...whatever she suggests follow her advice so you get to prepare for your inspection in due course

Good luck and feedback to us!

    Hi Sali!

I've got my pre reg tomorrow morning so I feel your pain! I feel ok about it at the moment but have a nice long 'to do' list to get through otday before I stand any chance of sleeping tonight - mostly cleaning though!

My inspector was lovely on the 'phone and, assuming you're in England, the following list of stuff she said she'll want to see/we'll cover should help:

*She said it shouldn't last more than 2 hours
    *id, preferably photo
*course certificate (I only have a certificate of completion for my CYPOP5 as only finished it a couple of weeks ago but she said that's fine)
    *first aid certificate
*safeguarding and complaints policies (I've done a few more but she only mentioned these 2)
*risk assessments - she asked if I've done written ones which I have but you don't HAVE to anymore, I think you can just talk through it (I personally need it in writing incase my brain goes to sleep on me!)
*the house needs to be fit for purpose ie. safe and secure as if children were coming the next day
*she said we'd talk about the children's health and hygiene, so where they are going to sleep, eat, rest and play
*she said that we'd talk through the 7 areas of learning and asked if I knew about the primary and specific areas. She said that I would need to demonstrate how I would cater for different ages e.g. a 4 year old and a baby. I could either talk about 1 activity for each area and how I would adapt it for the different ages or give an example of a completely different activity for each area of learning for each child or do both (I'm in the process of doing both so I know I've covered all the bases!)
*child protection - what are the signs and symptoms of different types of abuse and what I would do if I suspected abuse
*what my plans are for self evaluation

....and I think that's it! I hope that helps, although I'm sure your inspector gave you a similar list. I've basically ticked off all the things that I mentioned in my risk assessments, made sure everywhere is clean and tidy and printed out all the paperwork I've done/think she might want to see.

I haven't got all of the paperwork I want in place but have printed off an 'all about me' that I will adapt, mocked up a learning journal (going to do mine in a folder so have basically just written a contents page!) and mocked up a daily diary just so I can get her input.

I don't have a huge amount of resources at the moment because I just can't afford to waste money as I don't know what ages I'll be having but I have written a list of the sorts of things I'll need for different age groups (which I mentioned to her on the 'phone when she said about resources and she seemed impressed).

I'll try to post asap after my visit tomorrow morning and let you know if there was anything else that came up. Hopefully I'll have had confirmation that she'll approve my registration! Good luck for Wednesday!

Hi I had the same advice ahead of my visit which is also tomorrow morning!!

My LA advised to have a typical day plan on view for both adults and children so I've done that too. Good luck and hopefully there will be at least 3 more registered childminders by Wednesday afternoon.

Thankyou for your reply really helpful.

I havent done a self evaluation form? what to you have to do for that?

    am struggling on a few qs also;

    5. How will you evaluate the success of the activities you plan for the children?

    6. How will you assess children's individual needs and starting points when they begin their time with you?

    7. How will you know that children are progressing in their learning development and how will you use this knowledge to plan for their future development?

    10. What sources of help might you find for children who were not developing in line with expectations?

Also i have seen on another post an inspector askes about how you would plan and communicate for a child with english as a second language?

many thanks and good luck for tomorrow

    Hi, just a few ideas...

    5) You can evaluate the activities that you have planned for the children by jotting down whether or not the activity enabled the children to meet any of the developmental stages within the EYFS, note what you could have done better etc if the activity didn't enable the children to meet any goals you could set up an ILP (Individual Learning Plan) which would specifically plan activities to enable a key child to meet specific goals, you can also do this as a "next step" too.

    6) The starting points a really a selection of questions that the parent/Carer fill out before the child's placement with you commences telling you all about the child, likes, dislikes, food preferences, toys they like to play with, how to cheer them up, how they cope in groups etc.

    7) Use an effective Tracking system, set up your own system to monitor each child's development and what stage of development they currently are at, ensure that this is kept up to date and use this as a tool to plan activities to meet/incorporate the next stages of development.

    10) Depending on the child's development and expectation level reached and looking at the child as a whole discuss with the parents what steps they feel necessary, offer support, I'm on a network where we have a SEN coordinator so that would be my first port of call, professionals like health visitors etc can be of use. In some cases a CAF form can be filled out (Common Assessment Framework) this is where you sit with the parents and together work with them setting a plan and a referral to what're the specialist may be. Parents have to give consent for this and have to sign the form.

With regards to a child having English as a second language you could visual props... Lay out cards with pictures of toilet, drink, food, pencil, happy, sad etc on a table and in an initial meeting with parents ensure a translator is present or that the parent understands how you intend to communicate with the child initially - via flash cards and ask the parent to explain this to the child, also explaining that English words will be slowly introduced.

Good luck with everything and I hope this helps

Hi thank you all for your replies! I had my pre reg visit on Wednesday and I passed, all the stress paid off!! She was 35 minutes late so I thought the interview will get cut short but to my luck she still kept it 3hrs and 40 minutes. Asked me every question from the pre reg booklet and added loads more on. Asked me about SEF? RA for overnight care? if I looked into insurance? what Ofsted will check for in my next visit? She didn't look at any of my paperwork and asked me to say all my ra verbally. so be prepared and this forum helps loads as it did with my pre reg, so thank you guys. Now to find some work!!

Any tips on how to start a welcome pack and what to add would be great.

She also wanted to see my partners passport and a bill on his name and my mot documents which she never told me over the phone so faffed around a little whilst she was waiting in the living room whilst I got it. Explained to her no one told me about these paperwork so remember those ladies!! Lol
