Help needed

Hi everyone

I desperately want to become a childminder but am really struggling with where to start. I have spoken to my LA who have advised that they are currently changing the contract for the training and will basically have to wait until that is sorted. What else can I do in the mean time to start the ball rolling?

Download the eyfs framework and devlopment matterrs. As they will want you to have read them before coursee. Nothing much else you can do sorry as first step is to do the la intro course. Reading posts on here is useful though.

I did CYPOP5 course online with MNT training. Ofsted were happy with my certificate for that

I agree, there's not a lot you can do without attending the LA's briefing session and then the course. Maybe try and start some policies and risk assessments, have a look at some examples. You don't want to get too far in case you decide after the briefing session that it's not for you. Plus you really need to have started the course to give you enough knowledge to complete risk assessments and policies etc.

There's nothing stopping you looking at the EYFS and Development Matters documents to make you familiar. Get chatting on here as well, I have learnt so much!

the other thing you can do is see if they have the text book with accompanies the course at your local library. I think PACEY said you can get it there. If you have a good read through it will give you an idea of what the actual course will be like x

I was told I had to do my la accredited course and nothing else would do. Now I am looking into it again for my hubby and she reluctantly admitted he could do the online Pacey course. it costs £189 but you can apply for the cm start up grant of £250. I would apply for the grant, do the online course, then book first aid, food safety and safeguarding courses. Might be the fastest way to go about it.

The EYFS states the following:

3.23 Childminders must have completed a local authority approved training course which helps them understand and implement the EYFS before they can register with Ofsted.

I personally found it really good doing the course in a classroom, meeting people in the same situation and our development officers.
