    Default Visit tomoz!!!

I have a prospective parent coming for 1st visit tomoz. Problem is when I received phone call in the week, even though the Mum didn't say anything out of the ordinary, I have a funny feeling about it already!

Mum said that Nan has her DS after school and in the holidays but can't cope with her DD and this is whats bothering me! Why can't Nan cope with her? My Mum can get my lot to behave better than I can and as a general rule IMHO this is usually the case!

Does anyone else get gut feelings before they meet a parent for the 1st time or am |I being paranoid? Have never had this feeling before and it really worrying me.

    Any advice

You might be worrying unnecessarily. My mum was unable to look after my lot because she was unwell with diabetes so there could be any number of reasons. She may find getting to school difficult, may not drive, may be frail - loads of reasons. Dont be put off but ask the parent the full reason and have a settling in/ get out period.

Thx Annie. It bothers me as she looks after the ladies DS and takes and collects him from school!

My Mum has always looked after mine but she prefers DD2 in very short visits. DD2 is very loud and boisterous and doesn't listen to anyone. Other 2 were little angels and she used to have them to stay from about 3yrs. With DD2 I just have to mention whether it would be ok to have her for a night and a look of horror comes on her face

Part of the reason she went to a childminder before she started school was that my Mum couldn't cope with her for 3 days She is not a real problem and my CM never had any real problems other than the not listening to her but my Mum felt too old to do it.

My Mum will quite happily have the other 2 at any time

I think you will just have to watch carefully and ask questions on the visit and make sure that you have a settling in period in your contract in case you are not happy if you did take her on.

It could be just that the daughter is much younger than the son so needs more lifting and more attention which the nan is unable to give now?

Just wait and see when she gets to yours, it's probably nothing too terrible! Hope not anyway! You'll soon see!

    Good luck for the meeting!

I totally agree with what everyone has said, but I also think you should go with your inner voice and if you still feel strange after the meeting, then don't take the contract..

    good luck!

My mum manages really well with my 3 (all between 7 and 12) but wouldn't manage with a little one. Do you know how old the daughter is?

Keep an open mind until you have spoken to mum - after all she volunteered this information in the first place so it seems she has nothing to hide and there may be a simple explanation

I agree to have a 4 week settling in period where either party can end the contract without notice is a good idea

    Good luck tomorrow

    Good advice already given,

Make sure you write all your "niggling" worries down so that you address them at the meeting with mum.

Good luck and let us kow how it goes

Well the little one is starting f/t school in September so she is either 4 or very soon to be. Will write my niggles down and address them at meeting, obviously not too directly but will address them.
Won't actually be able to gage the LO for myself as she is not coming today! 1st time that has happened too. Not to worried about that though as I know what my DD is like when I am trying to talk to someone, lol, a bit in yer face!

Thanks for the advice will update later, she coming at 4pm!

I'd see what parent has to say before you make your mind up

I have a 9mth old starting shortly 3/4 days a week (his sister 8 yrs has always been looked after by Nan, but 8yrs on she feels too old to care for a baby full time, so she will have baby on Mon's )
So maybe it's just the Nan is feeling her age and does feel able to cope with the younger child.
Good Luck and as has been said you have your settling period to decide what to do .

Visit went quite well! Mum was here for over an hour and seemed really nice!
LO not able to go with Nan as her and brother together are a bit of a nightmare and the Nan is 80! I dont think I need of worried!
Did my usual of suggesting she visit other CM's to see what was on offer, only cause I know in my area no one offers as many services as me! he! he! To this mum said she was happy with what she saw and is going home to talk over with hubby! Going to give me call once she done that!
Lo has been to a nursery since she was 2 months old and is now 4 so from what I can gather no major issues there! I made a point of making sure mum knows how professional us CM's are and how much paperwork we have to do, i.e more than a nursery ! When mum saw my portfolio she was a little blown away by how indepth we have to be, I think I have changed her opinion of childminders. So if nothing else I have triumphed for us CM's! lol
